Their efforts include collaboration with industry experts, product designers, manufacturers, and government leaders to foster innovation and growth in Cannabis testing accreditation and usage.
What are A2LA and NIHC doing together?
A2LA and NIHC Launch Joint Accreditation Program for Hemp and Cannabis Testing Laboratories.
In October 2023, the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) announced a strategic partnership with the National Industrial Hemp Council (NIHC) to launch a mutual recognition accreditation program for hemp and cannabis testing laboratories nationwide. This new program aims to enhance the credibility, consistency, and technical competence of testing labs operating in the fast-growing hemp and cannabis industry.
The initiative has been formally approved by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), thereby gaining global recognition and credibility for the program.
Trace McInturff, Vice President of A2LA, stated, “A2LA is very pleased to partner with NIHC to set and raise the bar for quality and technical competence of hemp testing laboratories serving NIHC stakeholders. This unique accreditation program provides dual recognition from both A2LA and NIHC, which will boost confidence in lab test results and reinforce a strong commitment to consumer safety.”
NIHC President Patrick Atagi also commented on the partnership: “We are excited to work side-by-side with the experts at A2LA in this collaborative effort to offer our members new pathways for laboratory accreditation. This comes at a critical time when testing reliability is essential to ensuring product quality and consumer trust. A2LA has a longstanding history of promoting safety through accreditation, and we are proud to be part of this safety-focused initiative.”
